Introducing ROR — India's gamified running app

A running app that makes every run feel like a game you play with your friends. Squads, realms, live stats, ghost racing — built for India, by Indian runners.

Running is more fun together

Some of the best runs I've had weren't solo. They were with my squad — three friends, a 6 AM meet-up at Cubbon Park, the same route we've run a hundred times, but with a side-bet on who finishes first. Loser buys chai.

That's the run you remember. Not the kilometre count. Not the calories. The shared kilometre.

Run on Realms is built around that idea. Running should feel like a game you play with your friends.

What ROR does for you and your squad

When you and your friends run, you don't just collect distance separately. You play together — in real-time, on a map of your actual city.

Own Realms
Register your favourite loop as a virtual territory. Defend it as a squad. Other runners try to capture it. You hold the throne.
Capture Zones
Run through hex zones across your city. Fill the map together with your squad's colour. Watch the neighbourhood become yours.
Live with Squad
See your friends' live GPS during a run — even when they're on a different route. Cheer them on without saying a word.
Squad Leaderboards
Weekly squad rankings. Member contribution. Squad vs squad challenges. Who put in the most km? Who held the longest streak?

The map fills with your colour as you run. The leaderboard updates as you finish. The chai bill is settled.

The features that make it fun

This is just the start of what makes running with ROR different:

  • Ghost racing. Race your past-best km, or another runner's ghost — overlaid on the map, pace-matched.
  • Squad chat with run-replay. Post a run summary into the squad chat. Auto-generates a beautiful share card with route + splits + a tap-to-cheer button.
  • Live cheers. When your friend is mid-run and you're on the couch, send a "cheer" — they get a heads-up notification on their watch / phone. Small but real.
  • Group challenges. "Squad runs 100km this month, everyone unlocks a week of Premium features." Set it. Track it. Win it.
  • Photo finish. End your run, tap to add a photo. It auto-attaches to the run summary. The whole squad sees how Mumbai looked at 5:47 AM today.
  • City vs city. Bengaluru runners vs Pune runners. Total km this week. Pure pride.
  • Earned badges. Premium badges, founder badges, streak badges, distance badges. Visible on your profile. Earned, not paid.
  • Football, too. If your weekends are turf bookings, we've got you. Venue heatmaps, pitch booking, pickup-game leaderboards — already live in beta.

It's not a longer feature list — it's a better evening with your friends.

Built for India, by Indian runners

A few things we obsessed over because they matter here:

  • GPS that survives Indian streets. High accuracy in dense areas. When the signal drops under a flyover or in a basement parking, our Kalman filter + dead-reckoning predicts your motion until it comes back. Your run completes without missing a kilometre.
  • Battery you don't notice. An hour of tracking uses a fraction of the battery you'd expect. We profiled every code path for power.
  • Privacy by default. Run start and end coordinates are coarsened before they're stored — your home address is never exposed to anyone, including us.
  • Privacy-first, DPDPA-compliant. Your data is encrypted and hosted in Singapore (co-located for low India latency), and we comply fully with India's DPDP Act 2023 — including its cross-border transfer rules — from day one.

The vision: starting in India, going global

Today ROR is a running app you play with your friends. In five years, it's the gamified fitness OS for the world.

We start in India because the running community here is exploding — tens of millions of runners, marathon culture in every metro, new squads forming every month — and because building for our streets, our climate, our networks forces us to engineer for the hardest version of every problem. If GPS works in Mumbai monsoon traffic, it works in San Francisco fog. If our infra handles a Bengaluru parkrun of 800 people on Sunday morning, it handles a London 10K.

Year 1 — Win India

Free tier covers 90% of what a runner needs — GPS, realms, squads, leaderboards. Premium unlocks competitive depth — advanced analytics, ghost racing, national leaderboard, unlimited squads, premium share cards. Founding runners get an unfair head start.

Year 2 — Indian community + events economy

Squads grow into clubs. Clubs host weekly meetups. Meetups become paid events — 5Ks, half-marathons, charity runs — organised end-to-end through ROR with GPS-verified results, custom medals, sponsor banners. Brands run city-wide challenges. Your leaderboard rank becomes a real resume in the running world.

Year 3 — Go global

Same playbook, new markets. Southeast Asia first (Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand) — high running growth, mobile-first, similar infra story to India. Middle East next (UAE, Saudi, Qatar) — premium running scene with global expat communities. LATAM after that (Brazil, Mexico) — emerging marathon culture.

The product is the same. The realms are different. The leaderboards are local. The squads are global.

Year 5 — Fitness OS for the world

Cycling. Football (already shipped — turf booking + venue heatmaps live today). Pickleball. Trail running. Hiking. Whatever the world does to move outdoors, ROR is where it gets tracked, gamified, and shared.

Health insurance integration: run X km this month, knock Y% off your premium. Wearable integration: Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, BoAt, Whoop. Corporate wellness: companies plug ROR into employee fitness benefits across markets.

The endgame: a global player in active-lifestyle, built from India out — the way Spotify did music from Sweden, the way Notion did productivity from a tiny SF team. A real Indian-origin consumer product with a billion-runner ceiling.

The active person — runner, footballer, cyclist, hiker — has one app that knows everything they do and turns it into community, ranking, revenue, identity. Not just a number on a watch.

How fast we get there is up to runners — worldwide

Five years is our cautious plan. Reality could be much faster — if the global running community rallies.

Every consumer product that scaled fast — Discord, BeReal, Linear, Substack — got there because the community pulled the roadmap forward faster than the team could push. We're betting the same plays for running.

We're starting in India because that's home, but the waitlist is open to runners anywhere. London marathoner. Singapore parkrunner. Dubai expat squad. NYC five-borough crew. If you run, you belong here from day one.

Here's what compresses our timeline:

  • More founding runners on the waitlist (anywhere) → we move public launch from "months" to "weeks"
  • A beta squad forming in your city → we add your city to the live list next sprint, not next quarter
  • Word of mouth in your running group → we hit critical mass for live multiplayer features (you need ≥20 active runners per city for realms to feel alive)
  • Feedback during beta → we ship the right Premium features at launch instead of guessing
  • Sharing this post → every new founding runner shortens the queue for everyone

The math:

  • 10,000 founding runners (any country) → Year-1 plan shipped in 6 months instead of 12
  • 100,000 founding runners worldwide → global launch in 18 months instead of 36
  • 1,000,000 founding runners → we're the gamified fitness OS for the world in 3 years, not 5

We're not asking you to wait. We're asking you to run with us. The faster the world joins, the faster we ship.

Join the waitlist → — wherever you run, you make ROR faster for everyone.

Where we are today

We're in closed beta with our founding squad across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Ahmedabad — with new cities joining weekly. iOS and Android public launch is expected in the coming months — we’ll announce the exact date soon.

The first 9,999 founding runners who join the waitlist get:

  1. Early access before public launch
  2. Early access to Premium features when we go live
  3. An exclusive Founding Runner badge — visible on your profile forever, can never be earned after launch

One more thing

ROR is built by runners who run on Indian streets, for runners who run on Indian streets. Every feature exists because someone in our beta squad said "wouldn't it be great if…" — and then we built it.

If you're running, you should be playing. If you're playing, you should be playing with your squad. We just built the map to make it count.
